Weekly Parish Bulletin Sunday, 7 June 2009: TENTH SUNDAY IN YEAR B Prayer for OBLATE CONGRESS, 8-10 June, 2009: God of joyful hope and faithful love: You call us to share more fully in the mission of your Son. In this time of great promise and change inspire and challenge us to be witnesses to the power and presence of Jesus. Guided by the Holy Spirit may we love and respect all you have created and be disciples of the Good News especially among the dispossessed. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Mary Immaculate Pray for us. St Eugene de Mazenod Pray for us. Bob McElvanney, Obose Akhideno and Trish Middlemist will be attending the Congress on behalf of our community. They are joined by six members from Leith and two from the Prison Chaplaincy. Altogether there will be fifteen from the Oblate Centre of Mission in Edinburgh. Please continue to pray for the Oblates and all the delegates attending this Congress. At the end of the Congress the new Provincial Leadership team will be inaugurated: Fr Willie Fitzpatrick (Provincial Leader, re-elected for a second term of three years) and his Councillors, Frs Ray Warren (Vicar Provincial), Oliver Barry, Michael O’Connor, Leo Philomin and Louis McDermott. FRESH START APPEAL: Justice and Peace Group are looking for household goods etc to support the work of FRESH START who help individuals and families moving into the area. No clothing please. Thank you for your support. Fresh Start are also looking for volunteers. Contact Linda Gibson on 0131 4767741. Forthcoming J+P events: Refugee Week 15-21 June; Fairtrade Stall 20/21 June. CHEESE & WINE in AID OF BREAST CANCER UNIT: On 20th June, 1pm-4pm. Admission is £5 and will include wine, fruit juice and cheese. Also Raffles, Bingo and Luck Dip. The event supports the unit in the Western General. Phone Trish 0131 442 1706. Bring a friend! GARDENING SUNDAY: on Sunday, 21st June, afternoon onwards in the grounds of St John Ogilvie’s. Volunteers of all ages welcome to tidy up the grounds and get some good needed weeding done. Bring your own tools. Refreshments promised. Don’t miss the opportunity to create our own “Chelsea Flower Show Garden”. COMMUNION SERVICE: This coming week, Monday to Wednesday, there will be no Mass at 9am. Instead there will be a Service of Word and Holy Communion at 9am led by Sr Cecilia. MASS for the SICK: Sunday 21st June at 11am. If you need transport for a sick or housebound person, please inform a member of the SVDP or the priests. SUMMER YOUTH CONCERT: Thursday 25th June. The youth of St John Ogilvie’s and St Mary’s Leith are organising a concert to raise funds to help meet the extra costs of the “Time-Out” youth pilgrimage to Taizé in October. Young people are invited to sign their name and their “act” for the concert on the notice board in the porch. SENIOR YOUTH MEETING on Wednesday 10th June at 7pm in Lesley’s place.
